Late night ramblings of a dreamer

"Going through the motions." That's been a phrase that has haunted me for years. Many times we're like the pilot that had become lost over the ocean and radioed, "I have no idea where I am or where I'm headed, but I'm making record time."
"Going through the motions." That's been a phrase that has haunted me for years. Many times we're like the pilot that had become lost over the ocean and radioed, "I have no idea where I am or where I'm headed, but I'm making record time."
Just days ago, I sat in a cold hotel room in a poor part of La Paz, Bolivia, dreaming with a few friends. It was one of those meetings where, I'm sure, if we could have just jotted down a few of the things that were said, we could have commenced to changing the world. You know, one of those "meetings" where a couple of adventurers get together with a disgust for normalcy, an idea that God is indeed big and just enough faith to push them to the edge...
I've found myself in meetings like that one many times throughout my life. In fact, the tag line for our ministry and a few of our lives- "There's more out there," actually came out of one of those meetings while two friends were in separate bathroom stalls passing "the time" by dreaming (that phrases origin has never been released...you're welcome). Well, getting back to that hotel room... In this meeting, we found ourselves only united by dreams, passion for God and a "fed-up" attitude for normal. We were from different generations, different parts of the USA, and they even talked funny as most "northerners" do. Yet, He brought us together.
You see, God does that sort of thing. He brings people together to encourage us and to throw "gas" on the fire of the dreams He has placed within us. He challenges us for "more," and just when we are about to commit to the fact that maybe we're crazy, He brings someone alongside that says, "Well, if you're crazy so am I." And we need that.
So, do you find yourself going through the motions in your Christian walk? In your church? In ministry? In your family? In your business or calling? Do you not dream? Do you not ask, seek and want more? Do the "motions" scare you? They should. You may not know where you're going, but trust the fact that wherever it is, you're going there fast. Redeem the time. Dream again.
However, dreaming never got anyone anywhere. You have to "wake up" and do something about it. One of my all time favorite quotes is from T. E. Lawrence. He said, "All men dream, but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity. But the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dream with open eyes, to make it possible." Will you make it possible?
Romans 12 teaches us that we all have gifts, and usually the talents and skills that He has placed within us are a part of the dream. Don't be placed in a box, but step out into what you're called into. For those of us that were in that hotel room, and many other rooms in the past, part of our dream is to see the Third Great Awakening. It is to see a beautiful bride, the Church, in all her splendor moved from complacency and motions to a full-blown Acts attack (I just made that up and it made me smile, and I'm leaving it)!
Honestly, there's more, and it's right at our doorsteps and fingertips. If you're not hungry for miracles, you should be. If you don't weep over your community, it's time. If you're fighting over doctrinal issues, carpet selections or have a Jezebel spirit, it's time to put on your big boy/big girl underwear and grow into maturity. Oh, there is so much more! Can you see it? Can you dream it? Your community and world need it.
And all of this "more," you can be a part of- a great part! Your dream, deep down, is a part of it! Revive the dream that He has placed within you and get in a place with Him where He stirs you. Then, get with some like-minded folk who can fan the flame when the dream is so big you get made fun of. I hope I'm found worthy enough that my dream is made fun of, if not, it could be too small...
Don't give up. Be challenged. I hope your dreams are filled tonight, and during the day, with His plans. Then, bring them into reality.
