Where there is no vision...you perish

Where are we headed? My dad always used to ask me, "What's your five-year plan?" Although we don't necessarily have to have every hour planned out, it is important to know what we're working towards. What is our vision? In the past two weeks, I have been bombarded with this "theme" through prayer, study, devotionals, etc. We go about our lives so haphazardly many times with an apathetic thinking and spirit, yet The Word instructs us that "where there is no vision, the people cast off restraint...(Prov. 29:18a)" Are we living an intentional life? Mick Bickle says that the key is not to be "busy" at every moment, but "intentional" at every moment. Where are we headed? When I ask you the following question from Rick Renner, what are your first thoughts? "If you keep doing exactly what you're doing right now, what will be your status in life two years from now?"   As this has been on the mind, I have als...

There's More Out There: His heart, a necessity

I remember it like it was yesterday, one of the most important and influential things that I have ever been taught in my Christian walk-God's heart for people. We were gearing up for my first ever mission trip to Peru in 2003, under the leadership of Dennis & Vicki White. They shared with us that we must have God's heart, that we must see people the way that God sees them. I have never forgot that and who knows how many times I have shared it. You see, as we go deeper with Him on our journey to "more," obviously, we will continue to get closer to His heart, and His heart is people. How much does that come intro contradiction with the world, though? Well, it should. The closer we get to Him, the more unlike the world we will appear, in every aspect. 2 Corinthians 5:17 declares, "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new." His heart, yep you guessed it, part of the "new....

Soaking in His presence

“Surely I have calmed and quieted my soul; like a weaned child with his mother, like a weaned child is my soul within me [ceased from fretting].” -Psalm 131:2 (AMP) “Be still and rest in the Lord; wait for Him and patiently lean yourself upon Him...” -Psalm 37:7a (AMP) What does your time with our Heavenly Father look like? When you read that question what is the first thought to enter into your mind? Excitement? Peace? Joy? Or, is it a feeling of discouragement, want or shame? In our “busy” lives, is there room for God? When do you come before Him? A quick prayer in the morning, at lunch and before bed-time? He is speaking to us the Words of Psalm 14:2, “The Lord looks down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there are any who understand, who seek God.” He is looking for true seekers. He is looking for those who are not satisfied with a 1-hour a week church service, but who long for more. He is looking for those who read something like John 14:12 (“Most assu...

The Smoke of a Thousand Villages

These past few weeks of visiting the States have been a great time of renewal, rest and fellowship with family, friends and churches; however, this Friday I will begin the journey back to Cusco, Peru--my home now. As I go back, 2012 looks to be a very intriguing year with so many opportunities. As we have already begun the work in the Quechua community of Ampay, I look to the amazing things that God has in store for that community and it's people, but also to the countless others that are still out there. This is the year that we get to them with the life-changing Message of Jesus, through proclamation and demonstration. We are looking towards a year of supernatural ministry as we are guided by the Holy Spirit into communities, homes and lives. I love to immerse myself in stories. Especially stories of missionaries from the past. One quote from Robert Moffat (a Scottish missionary to Africa and father-in-law to David Livingstone) has continued to stick with me as we continue to all...
