Hobbling Towards Him in The Andes

"God has...filled the human heart with longing. But we know not what we long for until we see the breathtaking God. This is the cause of universal restlessness. Hence the famous prayer of Saint Augustine: 'You made us for Yourself and our hearts find no peace till they rest in You.'" -John Piper

Finally, I caught up with her.

You would think that with her hobbling along with a cane, uphill and myself in a motorized vehicle, it wouldn't have been a problem, but it did take a minute or two to find her.

We had finished the meeting in Huila Huila, and I took my time talking and walking back to the truck, and I suppose during all that time she got a head start on us. She was an elderly, Quechua lady who had come to the Friday meeting for the first time. As I was getting ready to leave, one of the ladies mentioned to me that this elderly lady had at least a 45-minute walk, uphill, to her mud-brick home and maybe we could give her a lift. We were given a general direction to head, and we took off into the night.

Thankfully, a beautiful, full moon glistened on the mountains, lighting up the scene, as only it can at 12,000 feet altitude. There she was. We picked her up and drove her as far as we could, as the final part of the path to her humble abode was only a simple walking path.

As we drove off, I began to weep. She didn't ask for a ride, and was completely capable of making it home despite the limp. However, I began to think about the length that people will go to hear His Word, to know Him. For this lady perhaps even more so as we found out that she was unable to read (this is why Proclaimer Audio Bibles are important, you should buy some for us). Of course, faith comes by hearing doesn't it? Who is waiting for you to open your mouth?

It's true. He has filled the human heart with longing- a longing, that, deep down tells us there is something more. It's a longing that can only be satisfied by Him. We will do anything to get that, to hear that Message of hope, to hear what He is like, whether we have to walk over The Andes hobbling or not, we will find Him. He will be found.

Be encouraged as you journey deeper into knowing Him more and more, and be encouraged to take the hand of someone else and bring them along for the adventure...

"I love those who love me, and those who seek me diligently find me." -Proverbs 8:17
